Strength and Weakness of New Manchester United Signings

The summer transfer window 2020 has come to an end. Manchester United completed 4 signings on last day of the transfer window. Alex Telles, Facundo Pellistri, Edinson Cavani, and Amad Traore are the new faces; however, Amad Traore will join in January due to work visa issues. 

As Manchester United complete the signings, let us analyze the strength and weakness of 4 new players.

Alex Telles:

Age – 27 (peak age), Position – LB, Preferred Foot – Left

Alex Telles is a big offensive improvement in Left back position. Luke Shaw has struggled lately to provide a decisive cross or decisive shoot. Brendon Williams, Luke Shaw's backup struggled as well. The way Manchester United has started the season, they needed a good defensive LB who could man-mark the attacking players. Luke Shaw was terrible since the start of the season. Alex Telles is good offensively but poor in defence. 

I feel Alex Telles will improve the final third of the pitch with mouth-watering crosses. But defensive issues still persist.

Facundo Pellistri

Age – 18 (Very young), Position – RW, Preferred Foot – Right

Facundo Pellistri was a surprise signing for all the Manchester United fans. The Uruguayan is just 18 years old. The Right-winger will take time to adapt to the Premier League. Fans need to keep patience with him. Manchester United is lacking a proper right-winger since 2015. Fans were hoping for Jadon Sancho but were left shocked with the signing of unknown Facundo Pellistri. 

As a fan, I analyzed a few of his videos and concluded that he is an interesting prospect. He can dribble with pace and provide key decisive passes. He is just 18 years old kid who will learn a lot in the coming years. He has to improve his physicality, crossing, finishing, and heading ability.

Edinson Cavani

Age – 33 (Highly experienced), Position – CF, Preferred Foot – Right

The new no 7 of Manchester United, Edinson Cavani, 33 years old is an experienced Forward. He is the mega signing of the summer transfer window. His ability to head the ball, score goals, creative flick passes, and body strength makes him a perfect striker. His technique is terrific and passing range is phenomenal. 

The only problem is his age and his lack of game time since last 7 months. He would need to regain his fitness and adapt to the Premier League. Anthony Martial is suspended for next 3 matches and Cavani would need to step up quickly. It would be difficult for him to start consecutive matches considering his age and stamina levels.

Amad Traore

Age – 18 (Very young), Position – RW, Preferred Foot – Left

Amad Traore, exciting talent in the back of Atalanta academy, will join Manchester United in January 2021 due to work visa issues. Manchester United will pay more than 30 million for an 18-year-old kid. He is highly regarded. Papu Gomez, Argentine professional footballer told about him: “He’s a future star, trust me. During our trainings, he seems like Messi! You can’t stop him”.

Many fans have not seen too much of him but based on a few video clips, I believe he is going to be absolutely magic in upcoming years. His ability to dribble with pace is exceptional. Left foot Traore is an upcoming talent.

Conclusion:

Future looks great for Manchester United!! Can't say much about the present situation. Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani are good for squad strength, and will not directly make into playing 11 and impact the games.
